Dana Stewart's Story

I go by my middle name now, Stew/Stewie or Stewart aka Dana, since 1982 when I joined the Arboriculture industry, and Dana was not a good fit for that industry. I became a highly trained Certified Arborist (Tree Surgeon), qualified to work around energized power lines, along side BCHydro crews. I was prematurely retired at Age 29, on July 20/1992, when I was nearly killed again, in a serious head-on motorcycle crash at 60 kph, with a car being operated by a distracted driver! That was the 3rd TBI for me, and the second time my neck got broken, and what killed my interesting and fun career as a big tree climber, and high-rigger! It also killed my marriage to a beautiful woman I met in Whiterock named Shelley Shuller, who has since passed away in 2012 from a far scarier virus than Covid - it was Epstein Barr virus. We were married in 1988, and she couldn’t cope with the new injuries I got in ‘92, and her own onset of mysterious and puzzling symptoms, so she parted with me in 1993. Too bad, so sad, because I think we would have had some nice ...Expand for more
children. I’m just super lucky there were eyewitnesses again, like in the other crazy MVAs I survived, and that I was not turned into a quadriplegic or a paraplegic, as my back was also broken, and I lost my spleen!! Now I focus on my artwork, as a “spleenless wonder” (coined by a classmate from NSSS), and I do volunteer work with salmon enhancement people on Vancouver Island where I live in the Comox valley,, and I put my creative abilities to work on some practical innovations in my work shop, revolving around reducing emissions in our global warming and changing climate situation, using the frontal lobe injury problem I have called Perseveration, because I can’t shut off my mind now, Real world problems demand real world solutions, so I focus on what can be done, by adapting, adjusting, evolving and surviving....wish me luck on more successes, because I have achieved a few goals and made real progress with systems that work to save energy, save pollution, and save money for people! That is a win, win, win in this world as far as I know!
